Welcome to SOMALI ASSOCIATION OF PEEL AND HALTON (SAPH) website!

SAPH provides community support for Somali Canadian Youth in the Peel and Halton region of southern Ontario. SAPH community is a grass root based initiative that strives to help the Somali Canadian Youth to be upright and educated Canadian citizens of the future by providing them opportunities for sports such as organized Basketball, encouragement to pursue educational excellence and build youth role models for the community, cultural literacy through promotion of Somali culture and language, as well as developing future leadership skills and civic engagement.

Over the years, SAPH community have achieved success in mentoring and guiding youth to post secondary institutions such as universities in southern Ontario. SAPH youth have successfully enrolled in medical, engineering, and other in demand university programs inspiring future SAPH youth.

Employment and Training Support:

The SAPH employment initiative offers a customer focused service that treats everyone who needs help from the community as an individual and offers a personalized approach to meet each individuals needs.

The objective is to:

  • Help the youth build resumes, apply for jobs and prepare for interview
  • Encourage youth to learn and help provide or connect to internship available programs in Peel region.
  • Advice youth on pathways to high school graduation, higher education, and technical certification. Identify in-demand careers in the Peel region advice accordingly.
  • Seek Peel Region employers to increase access to employment for Somali youth and adults.
  • Provide work shop for financial literacy (Bank accounts and budgeting).

Our mission statement:

  • To strengthen the capacity of Somali community in Peel Region to become contributing members of society while maintaining their culture.

Our Goals and Objectives:

  • To promote the benefit of Somali Citizens living, primarily in the Peel Halton Region by advocating for the educating, training, and advancement of positive opportunities for Somali Youth. The raising of awareness in terms of poverty, wellbeing, distress and challenges that are faced by PEEL Somali community. To pursue other charitable purposes beneficial to the Somali Community primarily living in the Peel Halton region, in particular through the provision of advice, information and other services.
  • Establishing and delivering a range of ‘self help’ initiatives.
  • Encouraging individuals to learn English for better communication.
  • Providing support and help to parents, so that they may then support and help their children’s education to overcome any system challenges in the school system.
  • Encouraging children to take part in recreational and social activities available in the wider community.
  • Providing help and support to isolated elderly men and women to enable them to socialize, develop self help networks and share their culture.

Our Core Values:

  • While ensure that all services are delivered with utmost integrity and objectivity, SAPH aspires to develop programs whereby the Peel Halton Somali community can participate and promote self-reliance, which brings the Somali community together to ensure opportunities on an equal basis to other established Canadian communities.
  • Ensure that service users can participate in the development of their own programs.
  • Engage in partnership with the broader levels of government, to develop a joined approach to benefit Somali community in Peel and Halton regions.
  • Ensure equality of opportunity within the Somali community as regards access to opportunities, irrespective of abilities and for those with varying levels of skills – we want all members to benefit from the work of SAPH on an equal basis, particularly those groups which have traditionally experienced marginalization and exclusions from programs e.g. Women, Youth & seniors.
